Summary

Also called Violetwood or Violete. Bright luster, fine texture and is very stable in service. Very hard and heavy. Takes a high natural polish and develops patina as it ages. Fairly rare.

Details

Machining - Works well with both hand and machine tools with a moderate dulling effect on cutters. If cutting edges are kept sharp a very smooth finish is obtainable. Nail and screws hold well, and the wood can provide a fine natural waxy finish.

Color - Light to dark violet brown with lighter and darker stripes of purple.

Uses - Inlay, turning, fancy accessories.

Jank Hardness Rating - 2700 (Whats This?)
